Ultraviolet absorption
When ultraviolet light transmit through a colored gemstone, due to colored sample certain wavelengths are absorbed more strongly than others. When the spectrum is passed through the medium into a testing spectroscope, the colors most strongly absorbed may show as dark bands or finer lines.
