Durability

Durability
The degree of ability of a gemstone to withstand the effects of abrasion, scratching, impact, and chemical action, etc. The durability of a gemstone depends on chemical composition and both of its hardness and toughness. A mineral may be quite tough but rather easy to scratch, or it may be extra hard but be deficient in toughness because it has easy cleavage.
